American President, Barack Obama, should resign if he agreed that U.S. diplomats to spy on UN officials, said the founder of Wikileaks in an interview published Sunday by Spanish newspaper El Pais.

“The whole chain of command was aware of this order and agreed to resign for the United States to be considered a credible nation. Order is so important, that could be submitted to the president,” said Julian Assange .

“Obama should tell what he knows about this illegal order. If they refuse to answer or if there is evidence that it has approved this action, he must resign,” he said in an interview posted on the website of El Pais.

According to notes circulated by Wikileaks, the U.S. State Department has asked its diplomats to gather information on the UN officials.

U.S. authorities have also asked, credit card numbers, electronic addresses, phone numbers and even numbers loyalty card to some airlines of certain UN officials.

Julian Assange, aged 39, gave this interview for El Pais newspaper on Saturday, in a place that was not specified. He became public enemy number one in several countries after the publication last week of secret American diplomatic posts.
