New inventions in the U.S. real estate:The mini home-VIDEO!

U.S. housing market collapse due to economic crisis has revealed an unusual segment of the residential market which seems to attract more and more fans: houses with a floor area of about 8 square feet, with kitchen, bathroom and verandah, writes Associated Press.

“It is very un-American in the sense that smaller means lower consumption,” said Jay Shafer, 46, who lived in such house for nine years until his son was born.

Shafer built his first mini-house ten years ago, with a total area of about 8 square meters. Housing was equipped with a kitchenette with sink and stove, a bathroom with shower, a terrace of two persons, one bedroom and a “living room” where he worked and received their guests, provided that not more than two.

After his son was born, a year ago, Shafer moved into a house of 500 square meters. Now he owns Tumbleweed Tiny House company, which designs and builds miniature houses. The houses cost between 40,000 and 50,000 dollars but can be up to 50% cheaper if the owner chooses to assemble yourself.
