Lady Gaga Lights Up Stage At Lollapalooza

Many will argue that Lollapalooza is no place for Lady Gaga, and debate still rages around internet forums as to the merits of her performance and whether a pop singer should be performing at such a show and venue. She first appeared at Lollapalooza 3 years ago, on the smallest stage. To be sure, she is now one of the biggest names in modern pop music. However, the overwhelming feeling amongst those present was that she was a great success.

The 80,000 fans present were treated to a condensed version of her Monster Ball which carries on what many are calling a never ending world tour. Gaga’s Lollapalooza performance was a show that exuded confidence and a celebration of how far she has come since her early days, even bringing out for the audience her former sidekick, Lady Starlight from days gone by as a burlesque performer around Lower Manhattan. They even indulged in an old act of igniting aerosol hairspray cans that was once used in the days of much lesser special effects budgets. The central message to this show was “You can be anyone you want to be”.

Lady Gaga used a great deal more dialogue, much in between songs, as well as during songs in what was sometimes a very emotional moment, and at one stage thanking her father for providing inspiration in kicking off her music career by carrying her piano up a very long staircase at their NY apartment when she was only young.

Lady Gaga, who has just broken a VMA record with her 13 nominations in a single year, indulged in some crowd surfing and was joined by front man Justin Tranter. Her appearance was a great success and the show was well received. To finish off, Gaga rolled out the big hits — ‘Alejandro,’ ‘Poker Face’ — as she bathed in a blood bath under an angel statue. All of this will surely be a huge winner with most music lovers.
