Check the cholera epidemic in Haiti: 917 dead and over 14,000 patients

Cholera continues to victims in Haiti. According to data released Sunday by the Haitian Ministry of Health, the balance of deaths has reached 917, with 121 more than on Friday. The same report shows that the number of patients exceeded 14,600.

A previous assessment, released Friday, announcing 796 dead, including 13 in the capital, Port-au-Prince, and 12,303 hospitalized patients.

The devastating earthquake that rocked Haiti in January has left more than one million people homeless. Many of them now live in refugee camps in miserable conditions.

As if that was not enough, the country was recently hit by a hurricane. Tomas cyclone swept the coastal areas. Several camps for flood victims have been flooded and the living conditions of refugees have become almost unbearable. Immediately, the cholera epidemic broke out.
