After the Flood, Diseases Strikes

After the most severe flood in all the history of Pakistan now the people among the Indus river are the targets of many infections.

An important number of cholera cases was confirmed by aid workers in the Swat Valley of the northwestern Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Province and in the remote Rajanpur district in Punjab Province.

Maurizio Giuliano, a United Nations spokesman said that :The Pakistani government has not confirmed the outbreak, and rather than testing for cholera, health workers were treating the thousands of cases of acute diarrhea as the disease itself.

The district hospital in Rajanpur reported that acute gastroenteritis was spreading, with 60 percent of the cases affecting children.

The aid workers said that both antibiotics and fresh water are essential for the moment instead of food, because more people could die by diseases and thirsty rather than by hunger.
